Shubhavi Arya is a director and animator based in Minneapolis, USA and New Delhi, India. Shubhavi grew up around New Delhi, India and spent part of her life in Singapore. She is a 2021 graduate of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science and Psychology.
Shubhavi is a recipient of Honorary Mention Foreign Film Award at the ColorTape International Film Festival, Australia, Best Under 18 Filmmaker at the Global Independent Film Awards, USA and the Merit Award of Awareness at the Awareness Film Festival, USA. Her films have premiered worldwide in countries such as Australia, Georgia, Serbia, Brazil, Slovenia, Namibia, Poland, Germany, Scotland, India, Sweden, Israel, Italy, Dominican Republic, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Greece, Denmark and USA in over 70 international film festivals.
Shubhavi's debut film as an animator premiered at the Viborg Animation Festival, Denmark and Golden Snail International Film Festival, Serbia when she was only 12 years old. Her debut film as a director "Adventures of Malia" screened at over 49 international film festivals in over 18 countries winning over 3 awards and receiving nominations for 11 international awards. Adventures of Malia was notably screened at the 51st Chicago International Film Festival, 11th REDCAT International Chilldren's Film Festival, Children's Film Fest Seattle and the Chiyoko International Children and Youth Film Festival, Switzerland.
Shubhavi has written and directed fiction, documentary and animated films in Denmark, India and the US and has worked with actors from Ukraine, India and the US. Her films focus have an American narrative drive focusing on a combination of strong Eastern and Western cinema verité with realistic performances. Shubhavi's current projects include an upcoming animated short and a feature length screenplay.
